Woman Who Fought Off Sexual Assault On Brooklyn Street Says 'Nobody Cared'

A woman who was repeatedly groped on a Brooklyn sidewalk earlier this month says that witnesses to the assault did nothing to help her as she fought off the assailant.

"Nobody paid attention to me, nobody cared. I saw the people going into stores — nobody [did] nothing," the victim tells NBC New York.

The incident took place around 8 a.m. on March 10th, at the northeast corner of Livonia Avenue and Rockaway Avenue in Brownsville. According to police, the suspect walked past a 30-year-old woman, then "turned around, and proceeded to continually slap the victim's buttocks and grab her breasts, before fleeing the scene."

Video distributed by the NYPD shows the suspect approaching the woman, who tries to get away as the attack continues. Then she uses her umbrella to defend herself.

"He was in back of me, hitting me, touching me, trying to take my clothes off," she explained to NBC New York. "I told him, 'Leave me alone, you don't know me.'"

The unnamed woman now says she's worried about going out, and even doesn't want to take her daughter outside.

The NYPD is still searching for the suspect, who is wanted for forcible touching. He is described as having a goatee and was last seen wearing black pants, black Nike sneakers, a black hooded jacket with a multi-colored design on the back.
