Woman Who Allegedly Threw Dog In Trash Compactor Thought She Was Incinerating It

"I threw the dog down the incinerator because I don't like him," Dominiqua Parrish reportedly said of the "small, golden-haired dog" she tossed down a garbage chute.
Trash chute is for trash, not doggos.
A Queens woman allegedly tossed a dog into a trash compactor—which she apparently mistook for an incinerator—because, to quote, she "didn't like him."
The Queens District Attorney's office has charged 29-year-old Dominiqua Parrish with attempted aggravated cruelty to animals, second-degree criminal mischief, and overdriving, torturing or injuring an animal for her conduct on January 29th, when—according to prosecutors—she can be seen on security camera footage abusing "a small golden-haired dog."
Parrish, who lives in Far Rockaway, allegedly threw the unfortunate pup out of her apartment door and into her building's hallway around 2:50 a.m. She then grabbed it by its neck, prosecutors say, and hauled it down to the garbage room on the seventh floor. She can reportedly be seen entering the trash area with the dog, then leaving empty-handed.
Meanwhile, another video camera in the basement captured a building worker and a "Good Samaritan" rescuing the golden boy from the trash compactor, suggesting Parrish pitched it down the garbage chute. Suggesting actually feels like an over-generous term here: According to the D.A.'s office, she told police: "I threw the dog down the incinerator because I don't like him."
The dog reportedly fractured a rib and accrued various cuts and bruises during the fall, and was taken to the ASPCA for treatment. The indictment does not say whether or not the dog belonged to Parrish, but according Chief Assistant District Attorney John M. Ryan: "The defendant is accused of one of the most unthinkable acts—tossing an animal into a garbage disposal chute. It is hard to imagine that someone would do something so cruel."
And indeed, hers is some Jack-Nicholson-in-As-Good-As-It-Gets-level aggression, although people do try to dispose of their pets this way from time to time. In March, for example, a San Francisco man was charged with felonious animal cruelty after chucking his four-month-old Chihuahua puppy down a garbage chute.
Parrish will next appear in court on June 26th, and in the interim, has been released without posting bail.
