UPDATE: 198 Firefighters Battle 5-Alarm Fire In Brooklyn Sushi Restaurant

Three firefighters were injured.

A huge four-alarm fire ripped through businesses in Marine Park, Brooklyn this morning, and firefighters are still at the scene trying to get the blaze under control. [Update: The five-alarm fire was under control by 10:30 a.m. More details below.]

The fire broke out around 6:16 a.m. at 2118 Flatbush Avenue, where E Sushi is located. Thirty-nine FDNY units responded. One firefighter was injured and is in stable condition now.

The fire also spread to a medical supply business nearby. WABC 7 reports, "Flatbush Avenue is closed for the firefighting between Quentin Road and Avenue P. East 45th Street is closed between Flatbush Avenue and Avenue N. "

The cause of the blaze is currently unknown and will be investigated, an FDNY spokesperson said.

Update, 10 a.m.: The FDNY now says the fire is at 5 alarms, with 44 units responding and 198 firefighters on the scene. The fire is still not under control.

Update, 2:12 p.m.: The fire was under control by 10:30 a.m. FDNY Assistant Chief Richard Howe said at the scene, "We were met with heavy fire on arrival. The fire was located in the cockloft area, which is below the roof and above the ceiling. Units made an aggressive attempt to extinguish the fire. After a period of time, the decision was made, for the safety of the members, to withdraw to an exterior attack. The units did a very good job containing the fire to two commercial occupancies. We had three minor injuries to Firefighters. It was a very challenging fire."
