Two Injured In Shooting Outside State Senator Jesse Hamilton's Crown Heights Campaign Office

A bullet was lodged in the front door of Hamilton's office.
On Thursday night, two people were shot in the torso on a Brooklyn sidewalk right outside the campaign office of State Senator Jesse Hamilton. Hamilton decried the gun violence, noting that "a bullet [was] lodged in the front door" and that his "staff members were concerned for their lives when they heard the bullet hit the building, many of them scurrying to hide under tables."
The shooting took place at Montgomery Street and Rogers Avenue around 7:35 p.m. A 16-year-old boy was shot in the back while a 31-year-old man was shot in the back and arms. Both are in stable condition at hospital.
"We can not allow the abnormal to become the normal," Hamilton said in a statement "We can not allow gun violence in our communities to become somehow routine. Senseless injury and death are not routine. Tragedy in our communities must not become routine."
He added, "If someone is coming out of my campaign office door right here, literately, you’re coming out and the bullet is right here. So literately, if someone was coming out of my campaign office tonight at the wrong time, they would have gotten shot."

City Council Member Laurie Cumbo said, "While I am relieved that the injuries sustained from the shooting are not life-threatening, I am dismayed by the prevalence of gun violence that continues to plague our communities. We must remain diligent in our efforts to diffuse the underlying conflicts amongst our youth and young adults. I am proud to work in partnership with the Mayor’s Office to Prevent Gun Violence and violence interrupters such as S.O.S. Crown Heights and G-MACC, to ensure that our families can continue to live and thrive in a safe community.
