One person was killed after being ejected from a car in an early morning crash on the Cross-Bronx Expressway, police say. Five other people were also injured.

The NYPD says that around 1 a.m. two drivers were involved in a collision on the westbound Cross-Bronx near Webster Avenue. While traffic was stopped, four other drivers crashed into the stopped two vehicles.

PIX reports "the deceased victim was thrown into oncoming traffic on the other side of the highway." A person in a different vehicle was critically injured and taken to St. Barnabas Hospital. Four others sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

All lanes of the Cross-Bronx Expressway were closed during the investigation, but are now back open.
