Off-Duty Correction Officer Fatally Shot In His Car In Apparent Road Rage Indict

A 27-year-old off-duty correction officer was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head in his car on Friday. Preliminary reports suggest he was killed during a road rage confrontation.

Police responded to a 911 call at 1:46 a.m. and found an unconscious and unresponsive man inside a car at the intersection of 103 Avenue and 120 Street in Queens. EMS took him to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Police sources told the NY Post that the victim "may have been arguing with an unidentified motorcyclist prior to being shot." WABC 7 reports that the driver had been at a red light, but then "a man on a motorcycle pulled up just after 1:45 a.m. He got into a verbal dispute with the man on the motorcycle, who shot him in the head."

The name of the victim, who was apparently on his way to work, was not released, but Correction Commissioner Cynthia Brann said, "The entire Department of Correction is grieving this morning upon learning of the tragic shooting death of an off duty Correction Officer. My deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences go out to the officer’s family, friends, and colleagues throughout the department. We are in close communication with the NYPD.”
