The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from noon Wednesday to 6 a.m. on Tuesday. The NWS predicts around 1-3 inches of snow will drop on the city on Wednesday afternoon/evening, possibly starting around 3 p.m. The snow is then expected to change over to sleet and freezing rain coinciding with the evening commute. "Today will be a cold but dry day with a high of 39 degrees," the mayor's office tweeted this morning. "Tomorrow we're expecting a winter storm, so plan accordingly — especially during afternoon commute hours!"
With a storm system to our southwest moving in our direction for the second half of Wednesday and Wednesday night, here are preliminary snowfall expectations, along with the total rainfall / liquid equivalent forecast as the snow is expected to change to rain during Wed. night. pic.twitter.com/tWUuM20nvG

Sounds pretty straight forward, right? NOT SO FAST, according to AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist and Senior Vice President and also (I assume) Head Of Doomsday Prophecies Elliot Abrams, who told the NY Post it's not going to be one of those "fun" snowfalls. “It’s going to start off feeling a little powdery, like a dry, cold snow storm and get wetter and heavier. And as the sleet and freezing rain comes in, it will all get packed down into a mess," he told them.
He added that the rush hour winter mix "isn’t going to feel fun," it's more like a punishment from an angry Old Testament god for our urban hedonism. "Sleet feels like you’re getting sandblasted. It will change to plain rain late [Wednesday] night," he said. "Be ready for real slippery conditions in the afternoon and evening."
We still haven't seen all that much snow this winter in NYC, but out there in real America, this is the new national anthem:
