A 57-year-old man in Jamaica, Queens, was fatally shot while answering his front door on Tuesday evening, the NYPD confirmed to Gothamist.

When Mohammed Rizwan went to answer a knock at the door, someone shot him in the chest, then ran away. His family heard the clamor from upstairs, and then called the cops around 5:46 p.m., according to ABC News.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Rizwan with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A neighbor of Rizwan's, speaking to the New York Daily News, said that he ran a boarding house out of the property and that people would come to Rizwan's door to see if their rooms were ready. “People came regularly saying they wanted their money,” they told the Daily News. “Last week two guys were trying to kick down the door to get in. This pregnant woman came again and again, but her room was never ready.”

The investigation is ongoing and the NYPD has made no arrests thus far.
