Machete-Wielding Man Allegedly Slashes Victim In Head Near Union Square

Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly slashed another man in the face with a machete near Union Square on Friday.

Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly slashed another man in the head with a machete near Union Square on Friday morning.

The assault took place around 11 a.m., just steps from the popular park at 4th Avenue and Union Square East. The victim suffered a laceration to the head, and is expected to survive.

A food vendor at the scene told the NY Post, "I saw [the victim] and the blood was coming down his face. He walked over here."

The attacker took off east on 13th Street, according to cops. He is described as a 5' 10" male, last seen wearing a black shirt and multi-colored shorts. A motive is not currently known.
