At least one person was injured and Liberty Island was evacuated this morning after a propane tank fire in a construction area.

An FDNY spokesperson said the fire started around 11:45 a.m. Monday. Three propane tanks near a work area on the island caught fire during "some type of construction" happening there. NBC notes that the fire started near where a new museum is being constructed.

One person, who is believed to be one of the workers, was injured; he is expected to survive.

The entire island was evacuated as of 12:30 p.m. Firefighters and emergency crews are still at the scene as of 1:15 p.m. dealing with the second alarm blaze. Fire marshals will conduct an investigation once it is under control.

Tourists were being told there would be no more shuttles to the island today, as one told the Daily News: “The guy said there is an emergency at the statue so there are no more trips today. I’m disappointed but we’ll come back tomorrow."
