Police are searching for the driver of a yellow school bus who fatally struck a 68-year-old woman in the Bronx on Thursday morning, then fled the scene.

The victim was hit near Havemeyer and Story avenues just before 10 a.m., according to authorities. Security camera footage obtained by the Post shows the bus stopped at a stop sign as the woman crosses the street in the crosswalk. Just as the woman is passing the front of the bus, the driver accelerates and speeds away.

The woman was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A resident who spoke with NBC New York said the neighborhood has been overrun with commercial vehicles in recent years. "This street here used to be a nice quiet residential block and now all we got is buses, trucks and buses," he told the outlet.

Police are unsure whether children were on the bus at the time of the incident. The search for the driver remains ongoing.

We'll update as more information becomes available.
