Construction Worker Dies In Fall From 13-Story Brooklyn Building

A second construction worker died in an on-the-job accident this week, falling from a 13-story Brooklyn Heights building on Wednesday morning.
According to the Department of Buildings, the worker had been helping replace bricks underneath the water tower atop 1 Pierrepont Street when he fell. When DOB officials arrived on the scene, he was already dead, having tumbled into the yard behind the co-op around 10 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing, but according to NBC 4 New York, the 23-year-old victim was just one week into the job when he died. His identity has not yet been released.
On Monday, a 51-year-old construction worker named Nelson Salinas died while working on the facade of 311 East 50th Street in Midtown: A copestone dislodged from the top of the building, knocking him unconscious on his scaffold. EMS responded and transported him to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Hospital, where attendants pronounced him dead.
Neither the FDNY nor the DOB could confirm the deceased's age, but an FDNY spokesperson added that EMS transported the victim to Brooklyn Hospital Center in critical condition. The worker was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Speaking to the NY Daily News, Ang Whitehead, who works on 1 Pierrepont's fifth floor, described the accident as "scary"
"It seems almost unbelievable, you come to work and fall off the roof," Whitehead said. "I hope his family is okay."
