City Sanitation Truck Driver Critically Injures Bicyclist In Bushwick

The DSNY truck driver didn't stop and continued to the DSNY garage in Williamsburg.

A 25-year-old bicyclist was critically injured after being struck by a Department of Sanitation truck driver on Wednesday night. Police say the driver hit the woman in Bushwick and kept driving.
The incident took place around 8:30 p.m. An NYPD spokesperson says the bicyclist was traveling north when the DSNY truck driver hit her in the vicinity of 420 Evergreen Avenue. The truck driver did not stop and continued to Meserole Street and Varick Avenue.

The investigation is ongoing. WABC 7 reports that police located the vehicle, which showed signs of damage from the collision, at the DSNY garage on Varick Avenue in East Williamsburg. PIX 11 reports that the driver was taken into custody but has not been charged.
The unnamed bicyclist was taken to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition, but the spokesperson said her condition was upgraded to stable. She reportedly has a "broken clavicle and an open wound to her right arm."
Two years ago, bicyclist Leah Sylvain, 27, was killed by a truck driver who was making a left turn from Evergreen Avenue at Hart Street. The driver was arrested and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
