A 26-year-old man was killed while allegedly trying to rob a home in St. Albans early Monday morning. Police sources tell NY1 that residents beat the alleged intruder with a baseball bat and stabbed him to death.
Officers, who responded to a 911 call about a burglary in progress around 2:44 a.m., arrived at the home on Williamson Avenue to find the man with trauma to the head and a stab wound to the torso. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police sources tell the NY Post the man forced his way into the home after knocking on the front door and being rebuffed by a 16-year-old resident, who called police after locking the door. But the alleged intruder then kicked the door in and entered. He was immediately confronted by the teen and his 27-year-old brother.
The ensuing fight reportedly escalated outside the home, where the brothers used the bat and stabbed the man.
A neighbor said, "It is a very quiet neighborhood. We have been here like, for 10 years. First time seeing the news. I'm just coming in and see it's all taped off."
The NYPD is still investigating the incident. The brothers are reportedly being questioned.
