$500,000 Bail For Suspect Accused Of Raping 11-Yr-Old Girl In Her Bunk Bed

The suspect is an 18-year-old alleged member of MS-13.

An 18-year-old man has been charged with raping an 11-year-old girl in her Brooklyn bedroom's bunk bed—while her brother was in the lower bunk. Julio Ayala, who was also charged with burglary, is accused of pushing the bedroom's air-conditioning unit to enter the Prospect Lefferts Gardens bedroom on Wednesday night around 11:30 p.m.
Ayala allegedly fled when the girl started screaming, attracting her parents who called 911.

He was found on Saturday after a tipster called the police and a manhunt led authorities to his home near Flatbush and Linden Avenues. Ayala ran to a construction site, but police brought him out with a group of angry citizens on the sidewalk.
One told WABC 7, "When he came out [police] had to rush him out of the place to get him into the police car and get him out of there, otherwise I think [the crowd] would have killed him."

Another said, "Everybody was happy, giving high fives to cops. They were happy that they got him."
The Brooklyn D.A.'s office says that when police questioned him, Ayala essentially admitted to the assault, "I have never done anything like this before."
However, during Ayala's arraignment, the Daily News reports that his "Legal Aid lawyer, Anna Boksenbaum, called his arrest a case of mistaken identity, and said the girl didn’t pick him out of a lineup. Though he admitted he was at the scene of the crime, 'I question his ability to fully comprehend what was happening. There might have been confusion about what was happening,' she said."
Prosecutors say that Ayala left a Chicago Bulls cap on the victim's bedroom dresser.
Ayala, who is originally from El Salvador, was found with forged green and Social Security cards, according to the criminal complaint. He has been living with his aunt, uncle and their family and working for his uncle's air-conditioning company. His cousin said, "I don't think he's capable of doing that. There's children living in this household as well."
He is also suspected of being an MS-13 member, which worried PLG residents. One, Jean Borgella, said to the NY Times, "It’s not good for the family, it’s not good for our community. And it doesn’t help us solve the problems that we really need to solve."
Bail for Ayala was set at $500,000. His next court date is on Friday.
