14-Year-Old Girl Struck By Driver Who Got Out Of Car To Check On Her... And Then Drove Off

Police are searching for a driver who struck a teenage girl crossing a Brooklyn street—and then left the scene after getting out of her car to check on the girl. The victim said, "I’m thankful for those people that called 911 and they didn’t just leave me. I was scared."

The hit-and run happened on March 27th, around 4 p.m., in Sunset Park. Police say the 14-year-old was crossing the street at 47th Street and 9th Avenue when a woman driving a black Dodge Challenger hit her. Video shows the driver exiting the car to check on the girl, but then leaving while others help the girl.

The NYPD says a witnessed called 911, and the girl was taken to Maimonides Hospital with bruising to her torso and legs.

The victim, Xin Yi Wang, told the NY Post that the driver first asked her, "Are you OK? Do you need me to take you to the hospital? Or bring you home?" Wang didn't want a stranger (who just hit her with her car) taking her to the hospital, so she declined.

The Post reports that "other drivers were demanding that the driver move her car out of the way so their vehicles could pass. The hit-and-run driver did one loop around the block — then simply never came back, according to Wang."

Investigators describe the driver as being 35-40 years old, with a medium-heavy set and brown hair. The Dodge Challenger had Georgia license plates.
