It’s a commonly held opinion among some Gothamist staffers that Manhattan is best when you’re viewing it from afar—as opposed to, you know, while being in it. Call it a bit of Brooklyn snobbery, but come on, Manhattan looks pretty pretty good from the other side of the East River.
And Brooklyn is where Gothamist got its start, planted roots, and flourished—so you can imagine we’ve got a lot of love for the borough—specifically DUMBO, where we were based for over a decade.
But, alas, we’ve grown out of our old digs and moved spaces—and if we can no longer enjoy all the stunning views over the Manhattan Bridge (sunsets, lightning, Putin?) someone else ought to take advantage.
So! Dreamy Brooklyn Office Alert: Gothamist is looking to sublease our previous 3,000 square foot home, located at 20 Jay Street. The building is bike friendly and includes a soon-to-be-completed summery roof deck, designed by the folks behind the High Line. It’s a block from the water, a stone’s throw from Brooklyn Bridge Park, and across the street from all the coffee you’ll ever need.
With 13 oversized windows looking back toward Brooklyn and out over the East River, the space is absolutely flooded with natural light. It’s currently divided into three rooms, but if you’re looking for a more open plan, the walls can be knocked down. Also, the unit is pre-wired for ethernet as well as an electronic door locking system.
As for your neighbors? You’ll be working alongside small businesses, arts organizations, publishers, and entrepreneurial start-ups. Oh, and the office is dog friendly—so expect some four-legged neighbors also.
