"We have a deeply divided nation, but today, it seems that everyone has come together to join the protest against the new protest ad from Pepsi."
"We have a deeply divided nation," Stephen Colbert said last night during his monologue. "But today, it seems that everyone has come together to join the protest against the new protest ad from Pepsi." Colbert proceeded to have a lot of fun with Pepsi's now-deleted, gloriously tone-deaf Resistance advertising campaign. And he's really correct about both sides of the aisle coming together on this one.
The Pepsi ad managed to infuriate the far right as much as the left. It's incredible. The message of unity worked https://t.co/ioRHySsaCy

"It starts with a throng of beautiful, multi-ethnic people protesting in the streets of, I'm gonna guess Newport, Rhode Island," Colbert described. "So far, we don't know what has caused all of America's hot extras to take to the streets. But I'm guessing it's a protest for 'Attractive Lives Matter.'" Watch the segment below (which also includes a lot about Bill O'Reilly's sexual harassment lawsuit, his show bleeding advertisers, and Trump rushing in to defend him).
Seth Meyers offered his own darker alternative ending for the commercial:
Meyers also took a closer look at Trump's close relationship to O'Reilly and Fox News: "They give him glowing, unquestioning coverage and in return, he gives them unparalleled access," he said. "So Fox is basically the closest thing we have to state TV. In fact, the relationship between Trump and Fox News has turned into something of a mutual appreciation society, where they heap praise on one another."
And lastly, for a lighter segment, Colbert went undercover at his local H&R Block office to help everyday Americans file their 2016 tax returns.
