The Chinatown Snowman Rises Again
Feb. 10, 2017, 3:45 p.m.
Hello, old friend!
If you walk around Chinatown on a regular basis, there's one thing you always hope to see after a substantial snow fall: The big snowman at the corner of Canal and Essex Street. As the Lo-Down put it, "In these trying, uncertain times it’s comforting to know that some things do not change."
The snowman, which towers over six feet, is constructed by employees of the store at the corner, and the creation appeared yesterday afternoon. Currently, he has two faces (one facing the sidewalk, one facing the intersection, with bottles for eyes and remnants of carrots are noses.
We did spy a pair of tourists taking a broken carrot and positioning in a way that makes the snowman a little more R-rated, but the defilement was only momentary.
