Stare Into This Beautiful Interdimensional Portal Now Open At Brooklyn Bridge Park

If you're curious, this gurgling beast is 26 feet in diameter.
Anish Kapoor's "most viscerally arresting installation"—titled "Descension"—is now installed in Brooklyn Bridge Park after weeks and weeks of digging. How deep did they dig? To Hades? To the C train? Please don't try to find out. Just let the continuously swirling water hypnotize you from behind the barricades, because maybe it's not an interdimensional portal, maybe it's just your typical Brooklyn hellmouth.
This gurgling beast is 26 feet in diameter, and the official unveiling of the installation, presented by the Public Art Fund, took place yesterday. You'll find it in the park's Pier 1 (right near the ferry landing) through September 10th.
This is the first time "Descension" has been installed in North America, but you may have seen Kapoor's work here before—in 2006 he brought his Sky Mirror to Midtown.
