SNL Videos: Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Announces 2020 White House Run With Running Mate Tom Hanks

Musical guest Katy Perry also brought along @i_got_barzz to make this extra GIF-friendly.

Cementing his status as a superstar Renaissance man, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson joined Saturday Night Live's Five-Timers Club AND officially announced his plans to run for president in 2020 with fellow Five-Timers Club member Tom Hanks as his vice president during the monologue. Hanks predicted, "Together we would get 100% of the vote. I would get the senior vote because I fought in World War II in like ten different movies."

"And I would get the minority vote because everyone just assumes I'm whatever they are," Johnson declared.

This episode was also the 42nd season's finale, a season in which Alec Baldwin's Donald Trump impression become a cultural phenomenon (he was in the cold open, as Trump, as well as the one who gave Johnson his Five-Timers' robe). It also marked the final shows for longtime cast members Bobby Moynihan and Vanessa Bayer.

Overall, the show was another solid if not spectacular outing. The return of David S. Pumpkins helped put the "Rap Song" parody over the top, while other filmed segments—the Cartier Fidget Spinner and erectile dysfunction medication that is suspiciously like meth—were amusing. Of the live segments, the WWE promo with Johnson and Moynihan; the superhero Scorpio interlude; and the Wingman sketch were highlights. Cecily Strong's Gemma was back, and Johnson was as fearless a host as ever, totally willing to make fun of himself:

Weekend Update saw more zingers at the Trump White House—"Okay I know I said this last week, but this week was crazy. Obviously Donald Trump isn't done yet but let's just say Mike Pence is definitely warming up in the bullpen," Colin Jost announced and later called Trump "President-for-now." Michael Che noted how Trump complained that "no politician has been treated worse or more unfairly than him," so Che explained, "Honey, it's because you're not a real politician. You're a politician like Ja Rule is a festival organizer." (Stay tuned to see Jost and Che this summer when Weekend Update comes to primetime.) Bayer reprised her frightened meteorologist Dawn Lazarus for Update while Moynihan turned in a final stint as Drunk Uncle.

As musical guest, Katy Perry created two visual tableaus for her songs. She performed on a table of fruits and vegetables for "Bon Appetit" (her collaborators from Migos were there there) but her first song, "Swish Swish," provided many GIF-ready moments. She didn't have Nicki Minaj so Perry created a club mood with drag queens ("Brita Filter, Scarlet Envy, Brenda Dharling, Svetlana Stoli, Yuhua Hamasaki and RuPaul’s Drag Race season six queen Vivacious," according to Unicorn Booty) and club kids, plus Russell Horning, aka Rihanna fave @i_got_barzz, showing off his moves and his backpack:
