  • This year's parade has faced controversy because activist Oscar Lopez Rivera was being honored. Lopez Rivera was the leader of the Fuerzas Armadas de Liberación Nacional (FALN), which conducted a series of bombings including the fatal 1975 incident at Fraunces Tavern. Lopez Rivera, who served 35 years in prison, is reportedly reducing his role in the parade, though he's still marching.
