It's the Party of the Year!

It's the Party of the Year! The cream-colored red carpet is lining the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Costume Institute gala, and this year's event is centered around the new exhibit about Rei Kawakubo and her groundbreaking line, Comme de Garçons. Kawakubo is known for her avant-garde and, at times, and some of the party's attendees tried to push the envelope. Others, not so much.

Katy Perry, who is a co-chair of the gala, wore a dramatic red Maison Marigela dress with a 10-foot train, a look that channeled a gothic wedding gown or mourning dress. Priyanka Chopra also made an entrance, with her Ralph Lauren trench coat gown, which also had a long train. As Rihanna proved in 2015, long trains look amazing in photos.

Speaking of Rihanna, she didn't have a huge train, but she did wear Commes des Garcons, a dress from 2016 involving infinite fabric circles.

Helen Lasichanh, wife of gala co-chair Pharrell Williams, wore a wonderful red Commes des Garcons "gown" while Lily Collins went for a dramatic Kawakubo-esque haircut. Tracee Ellis Ross also went for Kawakubo-ish volume in a blue brocade dress.

Solange wore a puffer coat gown from Thom Browne that recalled Norma Kamali.

La La Anthony killed with a perfect revenge dress that says "Carmelo who?" but
overall many other dresses seemed more standard issue red carpet fare—like Gisele Bundchen's silver gown—pretty, but boring given the context of the night.
